General Information

The official census day was April 1, 1930, except for Alaska. Due to anticipated severe weather in April, the Alaskan census day was October 1, 1929. The 1930 census counted 123,202,624 people, a mere 5,165 of whom resided in a small town named Las Vegas, Nevada. This was the last census to ask people if they could read or write and also the last census in which every household got the same questions. In later years some households received a "long" form with an additional set of questions.
